 I usually love a movie or a television series that delights my investigative mood and those filled with jam pack actions like the famous Jack Bauer character that always go after the bad guy or the CSI series that solves crime with the help of the high tech gadgets and technology.In the country like the Philippines where crimes are getting high, according to reports, due to the effect of high prices of oil and the rising poverty level, authorities should have the utmost ability, intelligence and equipment to fight crime.In everyday news, I never missed to hear about carjacking activities in town victimizing a lot of luxury car owners. I laugh at my own ignorance when I learned that poker in Filipino is “Pusoy”. I was quite intrigued about this game that I keep searching if its right and it turned out to be the real thing. Oh, shame on me. All the while I know how to play a variation of poker which is “Pusoy Dos” or Poker Two in English. During my adolescence, I was exposed to this card game through my cousins. I noticed that four of my cousins often stay in Jimbo’s room after school. Out of curiosity, I peeked in and saw them all holding playing cards. I thought they are busy studying their lessons but it turned out that they are busy having fun with cards.Kuya Jimbo, asked me not to tell their parents about it for they will surely be punished. I obey him but ask if he can teach me in return. And so he does, that’s why I learned Poker Two at an early age.And now that I’m a grown up, I still see them play Poker and variations of that game but not in Kuya Jimbo’s room but in a part of the house they called as poker room.  

Talk about shoes

I am not familiar with the latest buzz in department stores or malls because my time is mostly occupied by work. My officemates and I don’t have enough time to shop even go window shopping because we need to be in the office by 11:00 in the morning that is one hour after the mall opening and go home by 9:00 in the evening just in time for the mall closing.

Good thing one of my workmate is a dealer of various fashion and lifestyle merchandise so most of us just order goods or apparels. But sometimes it ended to having the same shoes or clothing and yes it’s so boring to have a uniform look.

With the surging prices of oil that directly affects the basic commodities plus the weakening power of peso, people are trying hard to cope up with the daily cost of living. 2) If you own a lot of Credit Cards, you should try to choose just one or two cards that you think rewards you more and cut up the others. Having a credit card needs a lot of self-discipline and self-control especially to women who loves to shop or those who are specified as impulsive buyer.

3) Do some cost-cutting. If before you take a cab going to your workplace, why not try riding a bus, a jitney or a train instead. In that way, you can save gas and keep   savings for more important things like for paying credit card bills even it’s not yet the due date. 4) Be practical. Preparing your own meal at home can help you save big instead of going in a restaurant nearby your office to buy your lunch. As I said, keep your savings for more interesting things.5)Value money. We should understand the importance of money - how we earn should also be equal to how we spend it.

Cars and men

If women love to shop for clothes, shoes, bags and make-up, men crave for what they called toys for the big boys – car. No matter what age a man is, car is one of the highly anticipated topics of conversation even in a long distance form of communication.

Take the example of our neighbor Mang Serafin, who left three months ago and went to United States. He sent a letter to his friend who is my father and narrated his experience while having a vacation in his son’s home in Pennsylvania

He said he was glad to see and ride in a real Cadillac. Mang Serafin indicated that his son treated him for a shopping spree and they visited Used Cadillacs Harrisburg PA right after where they purchased a pre-used luxury car.

Reminiscing the times when he was still in the Philippines along with my father and other neighbor friends, they always talk about cars and dreamt of owning the most expensive one but couldn’t believe now that he’s not only riding but actually driving a Cadillac. He even wrote in jest that if he could have the Cadillac shipped here in the Philippines he will treat my father and their friends for a joy ride and some good time. I have seen a lot of celebrities who join poker tournament. Actually, I watched them play on television because the event was telecast. Its summer in the United States and Tita Genie chooses to escape the heat by going home in the Philippines. Her children were surprised to see her knocking at the door. She didn’t tell anyone of us that she’ll be going home, though she gave me a hint when we were chatting last week that she’ll see me soon.

Her arrival became an instant family reunion the next day. Of course, there were foods and lot of story-telling while we opened the ever famous “balikbayan” boxes. One of the boxes contained imported goodies and chocolates for her nieces and nephews the other boxes have shoes, bags, dress and magazines. I was looking on the magazines when I found Casino guide, so I asked Tita Genie, if she’s still playing in a casino and she just gave me a big smile. She was so proud to say that she has set-foot in the biggest casino in America, particularly in Las Vegas, Nevada.

She wanted to go to Macau someday because it is where the biggest casino in the world - the Sands Macau - is located. Aunt Bessie, Tita Genie’s sister said that her dream is too expensive and advised her to play online casino instead.
